Black Sea Gallery
Grand Opening!

Black Sea Gallery opened its 24,000 sf flagship store in August at the historic former Woolworth Building in Downtown San Jose. Black Sea Gallery specializes in imported and domestic home furnishings that emphasize a Mediterranean lifestyle.

From relaxed and oversized comfort to highly-stylized and eclectic furniture, rugs and accessories, Black Sea has the latest in home furnishings. The first Black Sea Gallery opened in 1996 and eleven retail stores are now in operation in Northern California including Burlingame, Walnut Creek, San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose. Black Sea is located at 27 South First Street.

Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria (226 East Santa Clara Street) Enjoy a taste of New York right in the heart of San Jose. Amici’s brings East Coast Pizza to the West Coast with a touch of old neighborhood style in their pizzas, salads, pasta and sandwiches.
Opening: Summer 2006

Juice Zone (231 East Santa Clara Street) More than just juice and smoothies, Juice Zone offers a full line of fresh healthy and delicious wraps and salads, organic coffee and herbal teas.

Fourth Street Pizza Company (150 East Santa Clara Street) At the Fourth Street Pizza Company, the smell of garlic and tomatoes will welcome patrons to this local pizza chain. Sauces are made fresh every morning and the handmade crusts are thick and crispy.

Avis (100 East Santa Clara Street) Renting a car will be convenient and easy with Avis’ newest location in Downtown San Jose. Avis Rent a Car System is the one of the largest car rental businesses, providing customers with a wide range of services at more than 1,700 locations worldwide. Opening: Fall 2005

Angels (400 South First Street) Come to Angels and enjoy its “heavenly and elegant” atmosphere. The DJ entertainment and modern design makes this an exciting nightlife venue.

Hally K Ono (312 South Third Street) Located in a Victorian house with a delightful patio, Hally K Ono blends western and eastern style foods to create a fresh new take on breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant name is as unique as its menu. “Hally” is Hawaiian for “come” and “K Ono” is Philippine for “it’s delicious”.

Lan's Noodle (225 East Santa Clara Street) Lan's Noodle brings delicious and inexpensive Vietnamese cuisine to Downtown San Jose. The noodle soups are perfect for chilly winter days while the rice noodle salads are perfect for warm summer days.

Taco Del Mar (235 East Santa Clara Street) Taco Del Mar provides a twist on traditional Mexican food, serving hand rolled burritos and fish tacos with a friendly, relaxed Baja atmosphere.

Smile Sushi (86 South First Street) Smile Sushi serves excellent Japanese dishes and bento boxes such as beef teriyaki and tempura. The menu also offers unique and authentic hand rolls and sushi made fresh to order.

The Loft Bar & Bistro

          

At the Loft Bar and Bistro, American cuisine meets new school urban loft. A spin off of the successful Capers Eat and Drink in Campbell, the handsome contemporary restaurant specializes in classic American dishes such as fire-roasted marinated artichokes, fried calamari with jalapenos, chicken marsala and meatloaf. The roof top patio loft is a great location for after work socializing or private parties. The Loft Bar and Bistro is located Downtown in an historic brick building next to PF Chang’s at 90 South Second Street.


         

City Hall is Open for Business!

         

The New City Hall is now open and has added approximately 1,800 new city hall employees and 1,000 visitors daily to the east side of Downtown. The beautiful tower and dome designed by world-renowned architect Richard Meier is fueling the revitalization of the surrounding area by filling cafes and restaurants. The 6,000 sf retail space at the base of city hall is expected to be completed by Spring of 2006.

Racing through Downtown
Next summer the streets of Downtown will be again filled with racers. San Jose will be hosting the second annual San Jose Grand Prix and the inaugural "Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon". The successful inaugural grand prix in July 2005 drew approximately 150,000 people over a three day period. The 2006 race will take place July 28-30. The "Rock 'n' Roll Marathon" will be a 13.1 mile race through downtown San Jose streets with live bands at every mile and a post race headliner concert at the HP Pavilion. The half marathon is expected to attract approximately 15,000 runners and 50,000 spectators.

Retail Renaissance in the Historic District

Downtown's Historic District district is emerging as a thriving retail area. Recent retail additions include Black Sea Gallery (rug & furniture store), Pueblo Viejo Imports (furniture store), The Record Shop (records & apparel), Bronze Tanning Studio (tanning salon & swimwear), Nextel (cell phones), and coming soon, Chic Chateau (apparel & furniture store).

CIM is building two mixed-use developments that will bring new residents and additional retail space on Second & Santa Clara Streets and on San Fernando between Second and Third Streets. These projects combined will add over 75,000 sf of retail space and over 400 housing units. Lucky Strikes Lanes will occupy 17,500 sf at the Second & Santa Clara project and is slated to open in late Summer 2006.

Additionally, a number of historic unreinforced masonry buildings are undergoing renovation and are expected to be completed over the next couple of years adding an additional 28,000 sf of new ground floor retail space to this area.
