Creating Jobs and Strengthening San Jose's Economy

SJRA administers redevelopment projects and programs in five Industrial Redevelopment Project Areas located throughout San Jose. These areas collectively encompass 7,881 acres of developed and undeveloped land, predominately under private property ownership. The SJRA's investment of more than $300 million to infrastructure in a 27-year period beginning in 1977 has stimulated private investment, including the creation of 70 million square feet of R&D, office, manufacturing, and warehouse spaces and 80,000 jobs.

North San Jose - The Innovation Triangle

North San Jose's, the Innovation Triangle, a 4,800-acre bounded by Highways 101, 880 and 237 is considered the world's most prestigious high-tech address, and has a built space totaling 42 million square feet. This area is home to more than 1,200 of the world's best known international and multinational technology companies, employing over 55,000 people. Major employers include: Cisco, Texas Instruments, Novellus, KLA Tencor, BEA Systems, Altera, Atmel, Brocade Communications, Cadence Design Systems, Seimens, Sony, Acer America, Hitachi, Hynix, Canon, Philips, Samsung, Lockheed Martin, Agilent, Rockwell Collins, eBay, Boston Scientific, Cypress Semiconductor, Pivot Interiors.

An update to the North San Jose EIR and Area Development Policy is currently in development with a vision to increasing densities of allowable industrial square footage and to providing housing and retail amenities for area workers. This policy is expected to be adopted by City Council in Spring 2005. view map

Edenvale – Silicon Valley South

This 2,312 acre technology park was designated as a redevelopment area in 1979 and 1981. Agency investments of over $90 million has attracted over 300 companies to expand and located in Edenvale and employ over 13,400 people. Companies including Stryker Endoscopy, Innovative Robotics, Power Integration, Clinimetrics, IBM, Symbol Technologies, Celestica, Lynux Works, Intel, Ionics, Hitachi , Solectron, Northrop Grumman, M/A-Com Tyco Electronics, and Jabil Circuits are located in Edenvale. The technology park is also home to the San Jose BioCenter, a world-class, state-of-the-art life sciences research facility and business incubator sponsored by the Redevelopment Agency.

Julian-Stockton

The Julian-Stockton Redevelopment Project Area was adopted in 1976. The 330-acre industrial project area houses traditional heavy industrial users including 330 businesses with 2,500 employees. Businesses located in the project area can be described as business support and people serving industry clusters involved in recycling, tile and cement manufacturing, sheet metal contractors, automobile parts and suppliers, and general contracting service providers. PG&E, Pac Bell, San Jose Water Company, Silicon Valley Solutions, Tramslatel, Consenys Software, OSF International, and San Jose Warehousing are some of the companies located in the industrial area located just North of the Downtown. view map

Monterey Corridor

The Monterey Corridor Project Area was established in 1994. The 492-acre project area has the third largest concentration of employers in San Jose , with more than 280 businesses and 6,728 employees.* Businesses located in the Monterey Corridor include both heavy industrial and light industrial uses. Business support and people serving industries such as garment manufacturing, recycling, roofing, auto services, cement manufacturing, tile manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, transportation services, and other general contractor firms that are suppliers to the residential and industrial construction companies operate in the Monterey Corridor. Banking, health care, retail and restaurant operations are also found in the area. Businesses located in the Monterey Corridor area include: Comcast, Lucero Electric Manufacturing, AMC Glass, Nextest, JRC Corp, ATC Paratransit, U.S. Health Works, Southern Lumber, A&T Precision Machining, Gold's Gym, Sun Sheetmetal, Seafood Express, San Jose Mailing, Off-Site Records Management, and Dung Vinh Inc., Restaurant Equipment. view map

Olinder

The Olinder Redevelopment Project Area was established in 1976. 83 establishments operating traditional heavy industrial business are located in an area that consists of 158 acres and a built space of approximately 2 million square feet. 1,425 people are employed in the project area. Businesses located in the Olinder area include: Air Systems, Inc., Acosta Manufacturing, California Wine Transport, Feista Food Products, A-1 Rents, and AMFAC Distribution Company. view map
